# Worsted

[Worsted](/content/glossary/worsted/index.html) is a tightly [woven](/content/glossary/woven/index.html) fabric made by using only long-staple combed wool or wool- [blend](/content/glossary/blend/index.html) yarns. The fabric has a hard, smooth surface. [Gabardine](/content/glossary/gabardine/index.html) is an example of a [worsted](/content/glossary/worsted/index.html) fabric. Common end use is men’s tailored suits. [Worsted](/content/glossary/worsted/index.html) is also a textile process of manufacturing spun yarns from staple fibres usually over 3 inches in length. The main operations are carding, [combing](/content/glossary/combing/index.html), drafting, and spinning.
