# Buckle

[Buckle](/content/glossary/buckle/index.html) is a flat, typically rectangular frame with a hinged pin, used for joining the ends of a belt or strap. Buckles are principally done in metallic materials, but can be even in [mother of pearl](/content/glossary/mother-of-pearl/index.html), cloth, cord or in more prestigious materials.
